Major General Freddy Ardianzah, head of the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) Information Center, announced on Saturday that Indonesia is gearing up for a significant peacekeeping mission in Gaza. The TNI plans to send 20,000 troops, primarily focused on health services and the Construction Engineers unit.
"This is more than just a military deployment," Freddy emphasized. "We're bringing a comprehensive package of medical facilities, emergency equipment, and construction capabilities to support the residents of Gaza."
The designated troops, with prior peacekeeping experience, will undergo additional training to ensure they're ready for the unique challenges of this mission.
However, the deployment is not a done deal yet. The TNI is awaiting approval from the Indonesian government and the United Nations.
Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin outlined two paths to authorization. "The first option is under the auspices of the United Nations," he explained. "This requires coordination and support from key countries involved in the Gaza conflict, including Arab nations like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates."
Sjafrie added that Israel's approval is also crucial, given its role in the conflict.
