The 11th Street Kids made a vow to have peace. No matter how many people they have to kill to get it.
For DC, this will be the summer of Superman (July 21) — but Clark Kent and Krypto the Superdog got nothing on Chris Smith and Eagly. OK, so they’ve got like a bunch of better powers, it’s true. The point is, summer 2025 also marks the return of Peacemaker to Max.
On Friday, Max released its teaser for Peacemaker season two. John Cena is back as the low-key nicest antihero (of sorts) in the comic book business; with him are trusty sidekicks Eagly and Vigilante (Freddie Stroma). Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee and Robert Patrick also return for season two. New cast members include Frank Grillo, David Denman, Sol Rodriguez and Tim Meadows.

Cena plays Peacemaker, real name Christopher Smith, who continues to “reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose while continuing to kick righteous evil-doer butt in his misguided quest for peace at any cost,” per the show’s logline.
That “misguided quest for peace at any cost” includes killing a lot of people — but they’re usually bad guys.
Season one of Peacemaker picked up where The Suicide Squad (2021), written and directed by James Gunn, left off. Peacemaker was not in 2016’s Suicide Squad, written and directed by David Ayer.
In a mid-credits scene for The Suicide Squad, we learn that Cena’s vigilante character (not to be confused with his best friend in Peacemaker, Adrian Chase aka Vigilante) has survived the events of the film. The Peacemaker TV series was born.
Peacemaker was created for television by Gunn, who now co-runs DC Studios with Peter Safran; they’re executive producers, as is Cena. Season two is comprised of eight episodes, all written by Gunn.
Gunn directed three episodes of season three. The other episodes are directed by Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett and Althea Jones. Peacemaker is produced by Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television.
